The Three Point Molly craps bet is simple to learn and play. In this guide, professional gambler Bill Collins will teach you how this strategy works and show you all the tricks you need to know if you want to become a master at online craps.

This strategy is probably how previous generations were taught to play craps and is based on the theory that the way to win at craps is to always make the bets with the lowest house advantage that you must overcome to win, which the Three Point Molly does.

It works best on a hot table where shooters are constantly repeating the numbers they are rolling.

It does not work well on cold tables or with shooters that are rolling every number possible while not repeating many of them, though it does protect initial bets from losing to extremely short rolls.

Here is what you will learn from Bill's guide:

So, if you're curious to level up your craps skills, let's dive right in!

What is the Three Point Molly Craps Strategy?

Definition

Three Point Molly is a contract pass line bet, plus two contract come bets. None of these contract bets can be removed or called off. They have to stay at risk until they are won or lost. Odds are added to each bet after they are all in place.

Here is a quick breakdown of the bets you will have to make to successfully use the 3 Point Molly:

Pass Line Bet

The pass line bet is made before the shooter rolls the dice for the first time.

A 7 or 11 on come-out rolls wins even money, while a 2, 3, or 12 rolling loses. After the pass line bet is established, the bet wins if the shooter repeats their point number.

If the 7 rolls before the shooter repeats their point number, the bet loses. Pass line bets win even money.

Pass Line Odds

The Pass line odds bet is like a separate side bet made after the point is established. When the bet wins the odds part of the bet gets paid at correct true odds. Odds pay 6 to 5 on 6 and 8, 3 to 2 on 5 and 9, and 2 to 1 on 4 and 10.

The Don’t Pass Line

The Don’t pass line bet is the same as a pass line bet, except that it wins the pass line bet loses and loses when the pass line wins.

On come out rolls, the don’t pass bet loses to 7 or 11, while winning on 2 or 3 rolling and the 12 rolling on the come-out rolls is a push, neither winning or losing on come out rolls.

Don’t Pass Odds

The don’t pass odds are the don’t player equivalent of pass line odds, in that they pay correct true odds. Since bets are more likely to lose than win, because of the 7 rolling more frequently than any other number, the payout for don’t pass odds is less than the amount bet.

How Does the Three Point Molly Craps Bet Work?

The bet consists of either a come-out pass line bet, then come bets made on the rolls after the point is established until two come bets are on box numbers (4 through 10), or it can be a don’t pass line bet, with two don’t come bets established.

When you win or lose a come or don’t come bet, you have the option to replace it. Some players like to always keep their three bets up to try to maximize their wins.

When playing it from the don’t side, replacing losing bets can get expensive if a shooter is constantly picking off your don’t bets by repeating the numbers you have bet on, and you continue to replace them.

Recommendation

Some players limit themselves to just two losses on any one shooter to avoid this possibility from happening.

The Three Point Molly puts your bets on three recently rolled numbers, that then have to hit again before a 7 rolls to collect.

After the third bet is in place, if your buy-in allows it, full odds can be added to each bet. If you are playing on a short bankroll, try to add at least double odds to your bets.

If betting a don’t pass and two don’t come bets, you can win more money by making your initial bet on each bet of your three bets equal to what your total bet on each number would be after you added odds, then just skip adding the odds.

Remember

You win more because don’t pass odds and don’t come odds pay you less than even money when you win, while the don’t pass and don’t come bets pay you even money, instead of less than even money.

It’s something to think about.

How to Set Up the Three Point Molly Strategy: 4-Step Guide

The 3 Point Molly craps bet may seem a bit too complex at first, but it is actually quite simple to set up.

Just follow these steps and you’ll master the bet in no time:

Step 1: Bet the Pass Line

First, begin with a Pass Line bet. You have 3 possible outcomes:

  • If the first roll is a 7 or 11, you win even money.
  • If the first roll is a 2, 3 or 12 you lose.
  • If other point is rolled, move on to the second step.

Step 2: Place a Come bet

Then, a Come bet is needed to continue the bet sequence. Here are the possible outcomes:

  • If you roll a 7 or 11 you win the Come bet, but keep in mind that the 7 will also make you lose the Pass Line bet from the previous step.
  • If you roll 2, 3 or 12 you lose the Come bet.
  • If another point is rolled, move on to the third step.

Step 3: Place another Come bet

Now, simply make a second come bet and you will have the following outcomes:

  • If you roll a 7 or 11 you win this Come bet, but keep in mind that the 7 will also make you lose the Pass Line & previous Come bet.
  • If you roll 2, 3 or 12 you lose this Come bet.
  • If other points are rolled, move to the fourth step.

Step 4: Add Odds to all bets placed

Now just add Odds bets to all the established points and Pass Line bet.

In a nutshell, an Odds bet in craps represents a wager you can place once the point is established and it is paid at the true odds of winning. Odds bets significantly lower the house edge.

If the bettor isn’t the shooter, a popular strategy amongst the experts is to not bet the pass line, then make 3 come bets starting after the first two rolls, then add odds to all bets when the third come bet travels to a number.

Pro Tip

This strategy keeps the bettor from exposing their odds to loss until after the fifth roll, which eliminates losing big on 54% of the shooters, who end up having short rolls.

It also sets them up to be in a position to take advantage of all hot rolls. This is called by some a delayed-entry strategy, as most money in playing craps is lost on the short rolls.

Pros and Cons of Playing the Three Point Molly Bet

Advantages:

  • Three Point Molly protects you against really short rolls. If 7 rolls on the second roll and you are betting the pass line and come bets, you will win the come bet, while losing the pass line bet so that you win the one bet that allows you to replace the losing bet.
  • Without the come bet in place, you would have lost the pass line bet without recovering it on the come bet win. If 7 rolls on the third roll and you are betting the pass line and come bets, your second come bet would win and offset one of the two losses that 7 would bring, thereby reducing your loss by half.
  • Since you don’t add your full odds until after all three bets are in place, you are getting your bets set up for a good roll, without having your full odds at risk during that early roll stage of betting.
  • Once you get your odds added, you are playing some of the lowest vig bets available on the craps table layout. The more odds you add, the more it lowers the house advantage on the bet.
  • The odds part of the bet is like a separate side bet that is paid at full, correct odds, giving the casino no house advantage on the odds part of the bet.
  • They do that to give you a reason to want to make the first part of the bet, where the house has a 1.41 percent advantage.

Disadvantages:

  • After all three of your initial pass and come bets are in place and you’ve added full odds, all three bets and odds are then exposed to being lost on the next rolls, maybe before you get to collect on any of them, as a 7 sweeps them all away.
  • If you are betting the Three Point Molly from the don’t pass/don’t come side, you have to successfully get pass the come out 7’s and 11’s to get your initial bets in place.
  • That can be hard to do, as some shooters go out of their way to try to roll a winning 7 before their point is established. You can hedge against the come-out 11 rolling with a small yo-11 bet each roll, to replace the don’t pass or don’t come bet if it lost to the 11 rolling.

3-Point Molly Alternatives

You can just make Place and Buy bets as soon as the point is established.

The advantage those bets have over the Three Point Molly bet is that you get to choose the number that your bet goes on so that your bet doesn’t go to a hard-to-make number like can happen with pass and come bets.

By the time you’ve added your odds on your Three Point Molly, you could have already collected twice on the place and buy bets hitting on those rolls. (You can win on second and third rolls betting the Three Point Molly, Too, if the same point number repeats immediately you would win that bet before odds were added.)

Remember

Place and buy bets are not contract bets, so they give you total control over when they are working, moved to other box numbers, reduced, increased, or taken down.
