Behind every consistent win in keno, there is a myth about winning keno patterns and lucky numbers.

But how can you improve your odds in this game?

There are many useful keno tips and strategies available claiming to work every time, but without any solid proof, their validity is highly doubtful, to say the least.

Most winning keno patterns are a myth since the outcome of the game is completely random. However, some gambling experts claim that they DO work to some extent.

Our guide can help you learn more about this topic and introduces you to secret patterns everyone is so covertly talking about.

If you stick with us until the end, there is a huge chance you’ll learn how to turn the following information to your advantage and hopefully increase your winning odds at keno.

 Here's what you'll discover:

  1. What are Keno Patterns
  2. The Most Common Patterns
  3. Popular Keno Patterns Among Players
  4. How to Select the Right Pattern
  5. Can Math Predict Numbers in Keno
  6. Is it Possible to Win Every Round
  7. Expert's Advice: How to Create Your Own Keno Pattern

What are Keno Patterns? Can You Really Win More Often?

Keno patterns are mostly based on the extracted numbers from thousands of sessions. They are formed according to the frequency of spots on which they appeared the most.

That’s the main reason why some players try to look for repeating numbers when engaging in keno.

It is believed that such combinations can offer greater winning chances than random picking.

Others pick their lucky numbers when betting on keno, such as specific birth dates, ages, or other favorite numerical sequences.

The hard truth is that keno patterns could help you win more often only to some extent; they can hardly guarantee a win.

Most Common Winning Patterns in Keno

keno common winning patterns

In my experience, there are some winning patterns that tend to win more frequently.

While that doesn’t explicitly mean that they can guarantee you will win, they are definitely worth exploring:

Number Clusters Explained

One of the ways to choose your keno numbers is to play clusters or lines.

In other words, clusters are patterns that form over time when a keno draw selects random numbers.

These lines may seem to sometimes connect the winning numbers or even touch each other, creating an image of numbers appearing in lines or groups.

Using such clusters is a very popular way to play keno and there are many different ways to do it. Players usually have a favorite cluster or group of clusters that they choose when playing.

Remember that none of the clusters enhances your chances of winning – they remain constant at all times.

We will mention the three most commonly used types of clusters in keno. To help you visualize each cluster, we will use RTG Keno in this example.

4 X 5 Corners

4x5 corners keno pattern

If you apply this cluster on a Keno Classic 5 Spot game, there is a chance to win $640 by matching all five numbers in a single round. The only catch is that you must bet $4 on one game to quadruple your chances of winning this prize.

To incorporate this clustering technique successfully, select five numbers in a cluster in each corner of the grid. Keep in mind that in some situations, you won’t be allowed to bet more than 10 or 15 numbers, depending on the game version you’re playing.

The perfect example would be numbers 1, 2, 11, 12, and 21 in the top left corner.

Follow the same pattern in the top right and mark 9, 10, 19, 20, and 30.

What remains is 51, 61, 62, 71, and 72 in the bottom left corner and 60, 69, 70, 79, and 80 in the bottom right. This way, you will cover several possible clusters that may appear in the draw.

Great news!

If only two of your corner clusters have three out of five winning numbers, you’ll get some money back. Landing four numbers in a cluster can triple your money and bring you $14.

Top Half 6

top half 6 pattern

This technique carries 4 chances to win $1,800 in a single round of keno. To make good use of it, you must opt for the Keno Classic 6 Spot variant.

The trick is to match all six numbers in one round with four chances for only $4.

The Top Half 6 cluster pattern is played by choosing numbers across the top half of the grid. You can do this by choosing lines from left to right, or right to left.

Don’t give up if you don’t match all six numbers along the line, though.

There is still a chance to win $80 by landing five numbers on any one line!

In addition, if you match just four out of six numbers on any line, you will at least win your money back and earn an extra $1.

5 Spot Line

5 spot line keno pattern

Just like the 4x5 cluster pattern, there is one more technique that can allow you to win $640 with 4 chances

It is called the 5 spot line because you trigger a prize by matching five numbers in a single round.

You start by choosing five numbers in a line along each corner of the grid. As an example, you can use numbers ranging from 1 – 5 or 6 – 10, as well as 71 – 75, or 76 – 80, respectively.

The pattern is very popular among the players as it covers several possible combinations that may appear in the draw. Provided two of your lines have three of the five selected numbers, you win your money back. If you match four numbers in a cluster, you’ll triple the money and cash in $14.

Each one of these fun techniques can help you build your cluster play.

This style of betting can be profitable and interesting, but only if you enjoy the excitement of waiting for the pattern to emerge.

Remember

None of the previously mentioned techniques can promise you a 100% positive outcome, so walk away or change if necessary.

Top 8 Popular Keno Patterns That Win the Most Often

Selecting patterns in a game of keno is the most difficult task as it requires a lot of experience and study over the years.

There are many theories on how to predict keno numbers since the game itself has very low probabilities of winning.

Still, if you somehow manage to crack the algorithm of the RNG over time, there is a chance to take advantage of the game and easily win at keno.

Then again, beating down the payout and odds in keno is no easy job, and it could take you some time before getting an edge even becomes possible.

The following patterns are among the most liked and talked about strategies in parlor gambling, so let’s analyze each one of them for better understanding:

Hot Numbers

keno patterns hot numbers

It is said that the best numbers in keno are the ones that are drawn the most.

Some players claim that 1, 4, 23, 34, and 72 are hot numbers, as they appear quite often in the draw.

Others believe that 3, 10, 16, 27, 31, 44, 58, 61, 67, and 74 are often drawn, and so on.

The real truth is that each version has its own algorithm, where only a small percentage could give certain numbers advantage, but that is probably irrelevant to the outcome.

Consecutive numbers

consecutive numbers

Among the popular playing techniques in keno is choosing a consecutive sequence of numbers. However, there is no evidence that suggests any positive results would come from using this betting pattern, not to mention the odds of hitting the exact same numbers twice in row.

Risk spreading

risk spreading

This strategy requires you to play on multiple betting cards, which is only possible on multi-card keno.

You start by choosing a group of 6 numbers over three cards.

The next step is to pick 4 of these numbers in different variations, so if your numbers are 2, 12, 23, 42, 50, and 70, mark them on three cards like this: 50, 42, 2 and 71 / 2, 50, 42, and 23 / 12, 2, 42, and 23.

Remember

The goal is to win multiple numbers across all cards.

Double Up

Doubling your previously lost bet is also a way to approach betting in keno.

This is similar to the Martingale system, but it misses the part where you go back to your initial bet once you win a round

For example

If you bet $3 on your first card and lose, the next one should be $6, and then $12, and so forth.

Although it’s a very risky pattern that will make you lose more money than you wanted, it is also an exciting way to gamble if you’re into higher stakes.

It doesn’t make any difference if you decide to keep your numbers or pick new ones. Just keep in mind that the risk of losing is bigger while your chances of winning remain the same.

Favorite/Lucky Numbers

keno patterns favorite lucky numbers

Choosing numbers that mean something to you when gambling on keno is called superstition. Some would call it ‘inner gut feeling’ or perhaps secret keno numbers.

While you might just make small progress with this pattern, don’t rely too much on it; important dates, favorite numbers, or lucky numerals are as good as any others.

Notwithstanding, one player from Las Vegas hit the biggest keno jackpot ever just by using the age of his wife, children, and his own birth date, totaling $6.4 million.

4 Card

4 card keno

This pattern can be played on up to four cards in the same keno game. You start by picking a certain number of spots on each card.

Once you are done with your selection, the random number generator determines the 20 winning numbers.

The biggest advantage of playing with four cards is the increased chance of winning. However, you have to be extra careful with your bankroll management here as selecting more cards increases the minimum stake.

20 Card

keno patterns 20 cards

The thing about playing 20-Card Keno is having more opportunities to win. If you’re playing 20 different cards, with a different 5 spot on each card, chances are you’ll make quite a winning streak.

But how about this: even if you hit your 5 spots on one of the cards, what about the remaining 19?

Remember

Playing on 20 cards can and will most likely become a losing experience with very low pays across all cards at some point.

Multi-card

multi card keno

Unlike standard keno with one card per round, this pattern can be used on up to 20 cards.

For instance, you can choose up to 7 cards and mark 15 different numbers on each one of them.

Such an approach creates a larger percentage of winning chances as the keno board can be covered with multiple combinations.

How to Choose Winning Keno Patterns: Step-by-Step Instructions

The best way to find a winning keno pattern would be by looking for repeating numbers. If applied properly, they can offer some great winning opportunities.

Another way around would be by picking your lucky numbers, such as specific birth dates or ages.

Important

To determine if a pattern truly occurs though, you must study a large number of game sessions.

It is often said that pattern numbers can either be hot or cold. According to that theory, some numbers are drawn more frequently than others. They are considered to be 1, 4, 23, 34 and 72, but some analysis from thousands of games of keno state that the list is much longer.

To choose the best keno patterns that win, you must become quite an experienced player.

Focusing on winning only will usually have a negative outcome in the game.

There are many conditions to be determined before choosing a winning keno pattern, and this task involves intense study.

Luckily, we can help you decide how to make a choice in just a few steps.

1. Know the Odds of Winning

pattern odds

Since patterns don’t have their own odds of winning (nobody has calculated them nor published), it is important to focus on the real probability in keno.

For example

You have an almost 1 in 4,287 chance to match five numbers in a 20-spot keno.

Getting more numbers only lowers the probability, so using these statistics in your favor is of high importance for the bankroll.

2.  Leverage the Knowledge of Different Patterns

leverage different keno patterns

The best way to approach any game in gambling is to apply all your knowledge when playing. Don’t stick to your comfort zone and rely on making “safe” decisions.

Try betting in clusters, pick hot numbers or go for the “cold” ones, form your personal pattern, look for high payout keno, or recurring patterns.

Always make sure to upgrade your knowledge and don’t forget that practice makes perfect!

3. Keep Track of Your Losses

keep track of losses

Getting obsessed with winning keno by applying too many patterns can make you oblivious to how much you’re spending.

That’s why you must always keep track of your losses.

Being a fast-played lottery-like game, keno requires you to set a loss limit so that you can avoid overspending.

Please note

No pattern can change the fact that  keno uses the RNG system meaning that all numbers appear erratically, run by a complex algorithm.

4.  Pick Between 4 to 8 Numbers If Everything Else Fails

keno patterns pick 4 and 8

If nothing else works, the best way to play keno is to pick between four and eight numbers.

From my experience,  this range offers you the best odds for solid payouts, so if patterns fail, go for the safest option.

Can Math Actually Help You Predict the Keno Numbers?

keno patterns math and prediction

Using math to predict the outcome of keno and other games of chance is possible but only to a certain extent.

This tactic is not really applicable for amateur players as it would be too difficult and confusing for them to dig deep into the matter for a short amount of time.

With that being said, only a supercomputer would be able to calculate huge amounts of data and detect a pattern of the numbers that are to be selected.

So, for a casual keno player, this is simply an unlikely scenario.

Simply put, regardless of anyone’s gaming style and skills, the odds and payouts represent the single most important (if not the only) factor in determining the end results.

Just like you can learn from our How to Play Keno Guide, no matter how fast or big your calculations are, there is no true winning pattern for a game of chance.

To put things differently, if for some reason the numbers in keno could be predicted, that would mean they are not random, giving us the reason to believe that the game is rigged or compromised.

The truth about using math for Keno

To make all twenty hits in keno, you would need to calculate the odds faster than 1 in 3,535,316,142,212,173,800.000 to make it in the first place.

Can You Actually Win at Keno Every Round?

can you win at keno every time?

Unfortunately, there are no magical answers on how to win at keno every round. In the end, it all comes down to understanding how the game works.

It would be unjust to claim that the best keno number combinations are “hot” or “cold”, or frequent and sporadic.

Pro tip

The biggest advice you’ll ever find when picking your lucky keno numbers is to play between four and six numbers, but more importantly, to have discipline and walk away when you’re ahead.

Trying to spot patterns, use systems, or calculate the odds to ultimately beat keno is basically like doing Sisyphus’ job.Instead, better focus on proven ways to maximize your odds.

Consider the following tips and always keep them at hand when playing:

  1. Play at casinos with better payouts in keno;
  2. Practice for free to get a hold of the game You can use our free keno games collection. It contains a lot of variants with different RTPs;
  3. Bet on four to six or eight numbers for the best odds;
  4. Walk away after a big win;
  5. Make your bankroll last as long as possible.

Expert’s Advice: Create Your Own Winning Number Pattern

expert advice

There is a theory that playing numbers in clusters that are close to each other can help you catch a pattern and even hit a jackpot.

As if the algorithm sees the numbers you choose and makes the draw based on those picks.

That is not entirely true because the moment you hit that DRAW button, the algorithm takes over and randomly picks one out of 24,040,016 combinations provided you’re playing 5 numbers out of 80.

These calculations get quite difficult if you select more numbers.

In the end, it turns out that the best way to take advantage of clusters and patterns in keno is when numbers start to cluster up.

A good example of that would be in decades or one-half of the board. The advantage of betting in clusters grants you a chance to win a larger bet, but automatically you get the smaller bet as well.

On top of that, there is also the possibility of hitting a smaller bet while waiting for the big one to occur.

The second advantage of clusters is a chance to get a lot more numbers with only one card.

Nonetheless, if you enjoy experimenting with number combinations and clusters, why not make your own pattern?

You can start with something simple like special dates or repeating numbers (make sure to write them down if they appear more than usual).

Important

Remember that winning keno combinations are most likely to be some random combo of numbers you’d least expect.

The best thing about making your own pattern is that you are not reducing your odds in any way, so it can certainly make the entire gaming experience more enjoyable and worthwhile.

Closing Thoughts - Are Keno Patterns Legit?

It is hard to understand sometimes why some players think that the random number generator can be fooled.

This is the brain of every automated lottery-like game, including slots, keno, bingo, poker, and more.

Once on, this high-tech component starts making superfast calculations of random numbers, probably between 1 and several billion ways.

What’s even more mind-blowing is the fact that it does this operation hundreds of times per second and it doesn’t really matter whether you’re playing or not.

Finding the winning keno patterns, under those circumstances, would be like knowing the secrets of probabilities of the entire universe, and we’re far from even scratching that question.

The patterns are legit as much as any other tactic you would use when playing keno, so it’s only a matter of time and chance when it will start giving you some tangible results.

Frequently Asked Questions about Keno Winning Patterns

What is the safest keno strategy?

It can be many things like picking the game with the best odds or selecting between 4 to 6 numbers per round. Others would say that it’s “hot” and “cold” numbers, the most drawn numbers, or clusters.

The thing is, none of the above affects the odds in keno, although some tips can keep you from losing a lot of money at once.

Is it possible to win at keno every round?
Yes, if you don’t play. All joking aside, the odds are not that great in keno. Keep that in mind when playing because you will need a whole lot of luck to get out as a winner from this challenging game of chance.
Are there any numbers that come up more often in keno?
Research on thousands of games of keno has shown that numbers 27 (25.59%), 35 (25.53%), and 65 (25.52%) come up more often than the others. Please take that statement with a grain of salt before playing.

Is it better to play keno with a progressive jackpot?

Although some keno games sound more attractive due to the progressive jackpots with a growing pot, landing one is highly unlikely. Why? Well, progressive keno games have a bigger house edge, which only reduces your chances of winning, not increasing them.
What is the best advice if patterns don’t work?
Don’t get obsessed with winning keno by frantically using as many patterns as you can. Always keep the track of your losses, that’s the safest way to stay on the right track.
