The Vietnamese police tracked down an online gambling ring that since the beginning of the year turned over $860 million.
What the investigation has revealed
Two main suspects in the organised illegal activity that used social media for gamblers to place bets have been arrested so far.
One member of the illegal gambling organisation often travelled from Hanoi to Saigon, in order to orchestrate bank payments and betting accounts, as well as rent locations for the staff to accept and place bets.
The national police said it was one of the most organised and largest online gambling rings they have busted. They suspect the gang offered gambling services to nationals and overseas players.
Since 2017, Vietnam has relaxed some gambling activities such as land-based casinos for nationals who can prove their funds along with sports betting.
